Discerning Intuition

We all have a deep source of wisdom within - our intuition. Your intuition is speaking all the time, however, our busy and fast-paced lives don’t always allow us to connect and build a relationship with our strongest tool of inner guidance.

The first step in creating a more joyful and fulfilling life is taking a pause to be with ourselves, the second is starting to listen to our desires and own counsel.

Everyone can think of a moment in which they leaned on their intuition - maybe it was breaking up with an ex because something felt “off”, or saying no to a job opportunity because you got a “bad vibe”. Our intuition is meant to guide us on our unique path, which looks different for every person.

The more we’re able to understand ourselves and trust our inner guidance, the more we’re able to do bigger and scarier things that might not seem logical, but lead us to where we’re meant to be.

Everyone receives their intuition differently. Some people don’t think they have intuition simply because the outside voices of guidance are louder than their own. Society, our parents, friends, workplaces, etc, are quick to tell us what to do based on their filters and life experience. If we want to live truly in alignment with our highest purpose and desires, then we need to start listening and put our own guidance first.

You are the one who knows most about your life, so who better to guide yourself on your path? To get in touch with your supercharged tool of wisdom, start small, pay attention, and practice acting on it.

Discern your Intuition

  1. Get really quiet, and sit in stillness for a moment

  2. Ask a mundane question with two outcomes, e.g. “Do I want to eat a salad or sandwich for lunch?”

  3. Notice what comes up for you in body and mind. Some people hear things, feel a deep sense of knowing, see images, receive smells.. Simply pay attention to what comes up.

  4. If no answer arrives (clarity), flip a coin assigning each outcome to a side (heads or tails).

  5. If you’re happy with the outcome, notice what came up around that option in your body and mind before the coin flip.

  6. If you’re unhappy with the outcome, your intuition already decided which it preferred before the flip. Go back and get curious about what came up around that option, noticing any feelings, thoughts or sensations.

  7. After you’ve figured out how your intuition speaks to you, start slowing down before decisions and check for the same signals of inner wisdom. The more you practice, the stronger you’ll get.
