Asking for Guidance

It can be really hard learning to trust our inner wisdom. One of my favourite ways to give myself physical evidence that this guidance is legit, is to ask for a sign. I first learned about asking for a sign from Emily King, a money mindset and business mentor, when I was having a challenging time trusting what I knew I had to do next.

The first summer of Covid, I got the intuitive ping to sell all my belongings, and move back to Nova Scotia. Six months later, I was surprised when I received a deep feeling of knowing that it was time to go back to Toronto. I was just getting started as a life coach, and was torn between doing the logical thing of getting a full-time job offer, and then moving back to Toronto, instead of trusting myself, booking a flight, and figuring it out along the way. It can be hard to take action when the wisdom we’ve been given makes no logical sense and feels a bit scary, so I decided to ask for a sign.

In my head I said to the Universe “show me a purple unicorn today if I’m meant to follow my gut”. When asking for a sign you need to be specific, give a time frame, and then pay attention. The universe is always trying to show us its support, but we can’t notice it if we’re not looking.

I chose a purple unicorn because I really wanted to know that the Universe was with me, and of course less, than an hour later in a second-hand store, I see a small, ceramic, purple unicorn. Within the week I had booked my flight back to Toronto, and it was the best decision I could have made. Since then I’ve asked for signs way more than I can count. My requests have included cold hard cash (got in less than 2 hours!), balloons, and a yellow car.

We can receive intuition in numerous ways - some people have a thought or idea, a feeling, or even a deep sense of knowing. Asking for a sign involves something in the physical world showing up to answer your question, or providing you with support that you’re on the right path. It helps to affirm that our intuitive guidance is correct, by giving us something physical that we can see with our eyes and believe.

Try asking for a sign the next time you’re strengthening your intuition, and leaning into trust. Having your object show up will help you feel confident in yourself, you just have to believe it’s possible.
