Living a Luxurious Life
The word “luxury” might bring to mind visions of champagne, jewelry, and first-class vacations around the world, all things I love, but to me, luxury also means time to leisurely enjoy my unique life.
Luxury is one of my four values, all of which interplay with the others. While on vacation in one of the most expensive places in the United States, I got to witness first hand what a luxurious life means to millionaires and billionaires, and it surprised me just how basic it was. Money is fabulous, but my definition of luxury extends further than the value of how much something costs.
While I am manifesting European yacht vacations with friends, my biggest luxury is time actually experiencing the world. A trip to my local hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant for an iced coffee is just as pleasurable (if not more) than a ride in a baby blue Lamborghini (although this was fun!).
Only through understanding what our values mean to us, can we apply this information to our life, and live in a way that truly lights us up. Defining our values also allows us to spend our resources (time and money) in ways that fuel us rather than deplete us.
I love spending money on a long and pleasurable meal with people whose company brings me joy, but spending the same amount on something without a vibe doesn’t fill my luxury tank in the same way.
Another one of my biggest luxuries in life is a limitless amount of time to bake and mess up elaborate recipes, so this week I intentionally set aside an afternoon to make an angel food cake. While the cake was delicious, the bigger gift was the process of creating it.
Words hold power and unique meaning to us all. To another person, spending hours in the kitchen with a fussy recipe might seem like a nightmare. Their version of luxury might be time alone to read a book, or staying out all night at a wild party with the ability to sleep in the next day. While we share can share values, their meanings change with each person.
We all are meant to live our values. Because the luxury of time is so important to me, I’ve shifted my career from sometimes working 90+ hours a week, to one where I can earn passive income and be paid more per hour, allowing me more time to enjoy and create my life. Valuing the luxury of time has also helped me prioritize waking up with the birds to enjoy slow and peaceful mornings.
By getting curious about what our values mean to us, we can nourish ourselves and create life experiences that are worth more than what money alone could ever provide. Leave a comment below about what luxury means to you, and how you live a luxurious life.
