Sober November

A few years ago I started doing a month sober, inspired by wanting to feel as amazing as possible. I’m not a big drinker, but I hate feeling hungover and the consequential impact it has on my diet and sleep.

While I’ve done dry January, my fav month to reset is November. My birthday is early December, which I treat as my “new year”, so I’ll spend my sober month future planning and getting my body and mind feeling incredible. November is Scorpio season, the perfect time to go deep, which occurs before December’s Sagittarius season, aka parties galore.

The biggest plus of taking some extended time sober is amazing sleep and feeling healthy in my body. I also like to challenge automatic behaviour and get my habits in check. This year in particular I’ve been in party mode, excitedly saying yes to margaritas and joints with friends, so it’ll be a nice reset for my body and mind.

By committing to a defined period, it makes my decision-making easy. I won’t say I’m not drinking on a Tuesday then change my mind when a happy hour offer comes through. During this month I still party and go out with my friends, offering me the opportunity to see who I am around others totally sober.

Socializing and dating can be challenging during my dry periods, but it’s such a good reminder to always surround yourself with people who support you and your best life. I feel amazing not drinking, but sometimes that can make others uncomfortable with their habits. Remember, that’s their problem, not yours.

The final benefit is all this extra time to do cool things. Not drinking or smoking weed frees up so much time, especially for someone like me who gets hungover from two drinks. My biggest tip if you’re interested in a dry month is to fill up your calendar with all the things you’ve been wanting to do (art classes, galleries, early am workouts).

The beauty of a sober month is that it acts like a reset, giving you time and space to notice how you feel when it’s just you. Use this period to check in with where you’re at, making life adjustments as you see fit.

XOXO
