Blossoming

My fall writer’s group is publishing a zine around the theme “survival takes imagination” influenced by Fariha Róisín. I’ve started writing my first book about going through grief to find yourself and your unique path, so I wrote a poem inspired by my journey.

If you feel like you’ve been going through it lately, especially if it feels never-ending, I invite you to take a moment to imagine yourself becoming in this process. Envision yourself shedding the pain, and shedding your past self to blossom into something even greater than you can imagine.

I can’t wait to share more of this book process with you, in the meantime enjoy this poem and let it encourage you to dream.

Blossoming

You’ll never expect what is on the other side of grief,

Of breaking open,

Of sinking to your lowest, again, and again, and again.

Survival takes a wild imagination.

To believe in something greater than yourself,

That you’re being guided and led through the pain to blossom.

Waking up day after day will feel impossible,

Because day after day you’ll struggle to stay alive.

But slowly you’ll start to see the sunshine again (I promise),

And it will feel warmer than you remember.

So take the tears, and take the pain.

Take whatever comes your way and fall to your knees.

Fall to your knees again, and again, because it’s bringing you to what you’re meant to become.

Be thankful, trust the process, and trust deeply in yourself,

For you are becoming.
