My 2024 Goal
Every year I choose a word to guide how I want to feel and what I’d like to work towards. I knew deep down that my 2024 word was “BODY”, as I’ve been learning so much in the last few years about how deeply health of the body supports the health of the mind. I went from a person who hated (dreaded!) working out, to someone who loved it and now does it for fun. I’ve also learned about how the body works, and experimented with how different ways of eating shifted the way that I felt.
The final push into choosing the word body came after reading Peter Attia’s book Outlive: The Science And Art of Longevity, which changed my approach to aging and physical wellness. I used to want to workout to lose weight, and now my intention behind it is to feel amazing, get stronger, and support my body in living the best it can. My diet used to fluctuate without any real evidence behind it, and now I am always striving to shift my eating and lifestyle to better care for myself.
When I was younger, the word “body” had negative connotations because I was looking at mine like the enemy instead of a friend. With age I’ve noticed that I physically and mentally feel better when I nourish myself properly. Through this, I’ve been able to unwind from past thinking to change my behavior and regularly choose actions that are nourishing to my body.
I’m so excited to be committing to a year focused on nourishing and supporting my body. I plan on reading more about nutrition and implementing my learnings, as well as taking more time for TLC bodywork. I also intend on working on my health with my family doctor and team of experts, including my amazing naturopath, massage therapist, and acupuncturist.
