Uncovering your Blocks
When we don’t have the things we desire, often it’s our negative beliefs limiting our current reality. Self-limiting beliefs are ideas we hold around our self and the world. When we’re young and pick up these beliefs, they come from a good place of wanting to keep us safe, but this sense of safety is often broad, outdated, and no longer serving us.
For example, we want to lose weight but don’t know who we’d be in the world as a confident hottie, we want to meet a partner but don’t want what relationships were modelled to us as a child, or want so much more money, but deep down are scared that we don’t know how to handle it.
Once we gain awareness of these specific self-limiting beliefs, we’re then able to shift our awareness and behaviours, by understanding that the thing we’re scared of isn’t all that scary at all.
To uncover your self-limiting beliefs, or “blocks”, try the journalling exercise below, given to me by my spiritual teacher and life coach - one of my favourites for when I feel stuck with no next steps in sight.
Write down a negative statement about your present moment. For example, I’m not meeting any men to date, I hate my job, or I just can’t seem to lose weight no matter how hard I try.
Set a timer for 3-5 minutes, and journal (using a paper and pen!) on the word “WHY”. If nothing comes to mind, simply let your mind wander, and don’t pass judgement on what you’re writing.
Repeat four more times. With each reflection you’ll sink a little deeper, chunking down into the negative belief that’s been holding you back from living your dream life.
